Your package may clear customs in a country other than its final destination. This can be a normal part of international shipping and does not mean your package is going to the wrong country.
Why does my package clear customs in another country?
International packages do not always travel directly from the origin country to the destination country.
Depending on the shipping route, carrier, shipping service, and customs arrangements your package may pass through another country for processing or customs clearance before continuing to its final destination.
For example, a package being delivered to Country B may follow this route:
Origin country → Processing facility → Customs clearance in Country A → Final destination in Country B
Even though the package clears customs in Country A, its final destination remains Country B.
In some cases, the destination country may still perform additional customs checks before delivery.
For example, parcels destined for EU countries typically clear customs in Amsterdam before continuing to their final destination country.
Origin country → Processing facility → Customs clearance in Amsterdam → Denmark
Why does Passport use this type of routing?
Passport works with a network of international shipping partners. The route your package takes may depend on the destination, shipping service, carrier network, and available processing locations.
As a result, packages may pass through international processing or customs locations before continuing to their destination.
Is my package going to the wrong country?
Usually, no. A tracking update from another country does not necessarily mean your package has been misrouted.
If the tracking information shows your package being processed or clearing customs in another country, it may simply be an intermediate step in its journey.
What happens after my package clears customs?
After the required processing is complete, your package will continue toward its final destination.
Depending on the shipment and destination, additional customs checks, duties, or taxes may still apply. Tracking updates will continue as the package moves through the shipping network and toward final delivery.
