How you pay depends on the service level you selected at checkout. If you paid duties and taxes when you placed your order (DDP), there's nothing more to pay. If duties weren't included at checkout (DDU), you'll pay your local customs agency or carrier before delivery.
Check your service level first
DDP (Delivered Duty Paid): Duties and taxes were paid at checkout. Passport handles the customs payment for you, and your package should clear customs without any action needed from you. You won't receive a payment request.
DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid): Duties and taxes were not paid at checkout. You'll need to pay before your package can be delivered.
Not sure which one you have? Check your order confirmation email from the merchant or review your receipt. It should indicate whether duties and taxes were included.
How to pay if you have a DDU shipment
Your local customs agency or postal service will contact you with payment instructions. Here's what to expect:
You'll receive an email from the customs agency or your local carrier with the amount owed and how to pay.
Check your spam folder. Payment notices sometimes get filtered. If your package has been in customs for a few days with no update, check spam for any missed messages.
Contact your local carrier. If your shipment has been in customs for several days and you have not received a link to pay duties and taxes, you can reach out to the local carrier using the link under "Your Local Delivery" on your tracking page. They can tell you if payment is required and how to submit it
You typically have 7-10 business days to pay. If payment isn't received in time, the package may be returned to the sender or discarded. Don't wait, pay promptly once you receive the notice.
Please note: Passport can't process duty and tax payments for DDU shipments. We cannot accept payments or make payments on your behalf. You must pay the customs agency or carrier directly.
