What do I do if my package has a customs clearance delay due to the Importer Registration/Identification Number?

If FedEx is the last-mile carrier for your shipment and you see this as the current status on the tracking page:

"Shipment requires importer's registration/identification number for clearance. (Examples include EIN, SSN, VAT, GST, RFC, etc.)
Recommended action: Importer must provide the required registration/identification number."

This typically means customs need the Consumer Tax ID for DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) packages to clear. In a few countries, customs require a Consumer Tax ID for DDP shipments, and each country has a unique name for this identification.

Country-Specific Requirements

1. Argentina:

   • Requires consumer Tax ID for DDP shipments (known as CUIT/CUIL).
     
     

2. Brazil:

   • Requires consumer tax ID for DDP shipments (known as CPF or CNPJ).
   • New PRC Program for orders under $50 USD.
     
     

3. Chile:

   • Requires consumer tax ID for DDP shipments.
   • Note: Supplements may require consumers to complete a declaration form—Max 10 supplements per shipment.
     
     

4. China:

   • Consumer tax ID may be required for DDP shipments (known as RUT or RUN).
   • Note: Shipments over ¥1,000 RMB (~$140 USD) may require a formal customs entry. However, shipments exceeding this value but containing only one item may be considered for personal use, and China Customs may allow it to be cleared informally.
     
     

5. Indonesia:

   • Customs may request the consumer’s NPWP tax ID.
     
     

6. Israel:

   • Shipments over $150 USD or 5KG require a consumer tax ID.
   • Note: Supplements and food may require the consumer to complete a food declaration form.
     
     

7. Norway:

   • The consumer's tax ID may be required for DDP shipments.
     
     

8. Peru:

   • Consumer tax ID may be required for DDP shipments.
   • Note: Max 4 cosmetics products per shipment.
     
     

9. South Africa:

   • All Shipments exceeding a value of ZAR 500.00 (~$28 USD) require an Importer's code for registered companies or a South African Identification Number if addressed to a private individual.
     
     

10. South Korea:

    • Sometimes requires a Resident Registration Number.
