Product Identifiers Support
EU customs authorities require a set of Product Identifiers (PID) for consumer goods imported into the European Union. The identifiers allow each item in a shipment to be matched to a recognized product and cleared through customs.
For every item, three Product Identifiers are declared:
- [Mandatory] Merchant Product Identifier (M-PID) – the merchant's own identifier for the product, i.e. the SKU.
- [Mandatory] Non-Standardized Product Identifier (NS-PID) – the manufacturer's own product code for the item.
- [Mandatory if exists] Standardized Product Identifier (S-PID) – a globally recognized barcode for the product: GTIN, EAN or UPC.
What do you need Product Identifiers for?
Product Identifiers are required for:
- Any B2C (distance-sales) order shipped to a destination within the EU27, regardless of the order value.
Providing Product Identifiers becomes mandatory from November 1, 2026.
Configuration
Product Identifiers are defined at the variant (sellable item) level, because the barcode and SKU are unique per variant. A few tips before you configure:
Define these at the variant level so each variant carries its own barcode (S-PID) and codes.
Use product-level data only when a product has a single variant, or when the values are identical for every variant.
Which IDs are required to be added?
- SKU (M-PID): your existing product SKU. This is already provided to us, so no additional setup is required.
- NonStandardPid (NS-PID): the manufacturer's own product code for the item.
- Barcode (S-PID): the product's GTIN, EAN or UPC barcode. If the product does not have a barcode, leave this field empty.
How to add PIDs?
1. Non Standardized Product ID (NS-PID)
NS-PIDs can be added to the product in the NS-PID field in the barcode dropdown. This is available at both the Product and Variant level.
2. Standardized Product Identifier (S-PID) - Barcode
S-PIDs can be added to the product in the Barcode field. This is available at both the Product and Variant level.
3. Bulk Editing
You may bulk edit all of your products to fill in the Barcode in one go:
