Install the Passport Shopify app
Use the installation link provided by Passport to install the app.
Once the app is installed:
- Open your Shopify Admin.
- Navigate to Apps.
- Select the Passport app.
- Open the Passport onboarding experience.
Once the app is open, follow the Passport onboarding checklist. The checklist identifies the Shopify configuration steps required before testing can begin.
Complete the Passport onboarding checklist
The Passport onboarding checklist outlines the Shopify configuration requirements that must be completed before testing. Some items are managed by your brand, while others are managed by your Passport Implementation Specialist.
Managed by the brand
Your brand is responsible for:
- Give Passport Collaborator Access
- Enable Carrier Calculated Shipping
- Add Correct Shipment Fulfillment Locations
- Add Correct Inventory for Each Fulfillment Location
- Add Required Product Information
Providing collaborator access allows your Passport Implementation Specialist to complete and validate Shopify configuration on your behalf. Without collaborator access, Passport may be limited in its ability to configure your store or troubleshoot setup issues.
Managed by the Implementation Specialist
Your Passport Implementation Specialist is responsible for:
- Add International Destinations into Shopify Market
- Create Shipping Zone for International Destinations
- Add Passport as a Carrier
Your Implementation Specialist will work through these items as part of your Shopify configuration.
Important: Some configuration steps should not be completed until Passport confirms that your store is ready. Do not activate international Markets or Passport shipping rates before your Passport Implementation Specialist confirms that the required setup is complete.
Configure Shopify Markets
Configure Shopify Markets before setting up Shipping and Delivery.
- In your Shopify Admin, open Settings.
- Select Markets.
- Create a new international Market or select the relevant existing Market.
- Add the countries or regions supported by your brand’s Passport implementation.
- Apply any required product exclusions. For example, exclude products that cannot be shipped to specific countries or regions.
- Activate the Market only when your Passport Implementation Specialist instructs you to do so.

Important: Do not activate your international Market until your Passport Implementation Specialist confirms that it is ready.
Configure Passport Shipping and Delivery
Once the appropriate international destinations have been configured in Shopify Markets, your Passport Implementation Specialist will configure or validate the required Shipping and Delivery settings.
This includes:
- Creating or validating the appropriate international shipping zone for the destinations enabled in Shopify Markets.
- Adding or activating Passport shipping rates for the applicable international shipping zone.
- Confirming that the Passport rates are available and correctly aligned with the destinations enabled in Shopify Markets.
This configuration is managed by your Passport Implementation Specialist when collaborator access has been provided.
Carrier Calculated Shipping
Your brand is responsible for enabling Carrier Calculated Shipping when required.
This requirement may only apply to certain Shopify plans. Your Passport Implementation Specialist will confirm whether Carrier Calculated Shipping needs to be enabled for your store.
Send a test shipment and confirm tracking
Once the required Shopify configuration is complete, your Passport Implementation Specialist will confirm when your store is ready for testing.
Testing is typically coordinated between your brand, your Passport Implementation Specialist, and your fulfillment team or 3PL.
Create a test shipment
- Navigate to your website.
- Select an item and add it to your cart as a customer would.
- Proceed through the live checkout process.
- Confirm that Passport appears as a shipping option.
- Complete the order.
- Reply to your Passport implementation email thread with the Shopify test order number.
Confirm fulfillment and tracking
Once your fulfillment team or 3PL processes the test order:
- Confirm that the order has been marked as Fulfilled.
- Confirm that the label has been printed successfully.
- Search for the test order number in Shopify.
- Locate the tracking information associated with the order.
- Confirm that Shopify received the appropriate tracking information.
- Select the tracking number and confirm that it opens a Passport tracking page.
Begin shipping
If the test shipment is successful, your Passport Implementation Specialist will confirm that your setup is ready to go live.
Once confirmed, you're ready to begin shipping with Passport.
