When shipping internationally, you may find that some countries require tax IDs from their residents for the package to clear customs. If the tax ID is not provided, it can cause delays, and in many cases, the customer will not receive their order. Due to this, Passport has created a tax ID checkout extension for orders being processed through Shopify. Collecting tax IDs directly at checkout eliminates your end-customers being contacted for their tax IDs after buying from you, giving everyone involved a better experience.
Please note: this extension is only available for Shopify Plus merchants.

You can check the following page for further information:
How does the extension work?
Passport’s optional tax ID field appears at Shopify checkout when one of these countries are selected: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, India, Israel, Indonesia, Malaysia, Norway, Oman, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Qatar, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey.
What about other tax ID countries, such as Brazil, China, Mexico, and South Korea?
Shopify has an automatic tax ID field that will surface at checkout when one of these four countries are selected.
Will this impact our cart conversion?
Since the tax ID field is optional, it should not affect conversion rates.
